The Restinga do Lobito is one of the strangest and best addresses on the Angolan coast: a natural sandspit barely a couple of hundred metres wide that curves for five kilometres out into the Atlantic, with the flat turquoise water of Lobito bay on the inside and open ocean on the outside. Lobito and neighbouring Benguela form Angola's most liveable coastal pair: broad avenues, jacaranda and palms, a working port, the terminus of the Benguela railway, a decent hospital, markets, banks and a genuine restaurant culture built on Portuguese-Angolan seafood — grilled garoupa, calulu, muamba de galinha, cold Cuca beer at a table on the sand. Benguela's Praia Morena is fifteen minutes away, and the beaches south towards Baía Azul and Baía Farta are among the prettiest in the country, with pale sand and clear water.

Weather is kind here: a dry, mild coastal climate cooled by the Benguela current, hot and humid only in the short rains around February and March. The water is swimmable year round and the bay side stays flat, which makes it excellent for kayaking, paddleboarding and small-boat sailing. For buyers, the usual Angolan conditions apply — a lawyer and notary for title, patience with registration, Portuguese as the working language, and awareness that the kwanza has devalued heavily against the dollar, which is exactly why a seafront apartment on a spit like this converts to well under a hundred thousand US dollars today.
